Geocache Description:

Return to Canada Island - Water access only cache

One of my favourite caches of all time was Canada Island by McKinley GCG9CZ Placed 7 years ago, I was sad to see it archived. I enjoy spending time down here, Cross Country skiing in the winter, canoeing in the warmer months.

I thought a few of the newer cachers might enjoy the challenge of a great local adventure. AKA old school caching. I'm also sure some of the old timers wouldn't mind re-visiting an area they visited oh so long ago. It would be great to hear all about your adventure getting to the cache in your log write up.

Now, as mentioned, this is a water access only, there is no legal way to access it from land. The surrounding lands are private property so please do not even try to come at this from the nearby shore. (Besides its on an island, so your gonna get wet if you try)

You can park on the South Service Rd and carry your canoe, kayak or dinghy down to the waters edge at N43 10.749 W79 19.642 Please be sure to follow the rules for safe boating, life jackets all around, safety kits, spare paddles etc. If you are not an experienced paddler please be sure to hook up with someone who is before attempting this cache.

The trip is a nice 1.5km paddle to the cache. Round trip it took 1.5 hours for me to solo out to the island with a canoe at a very leisurely pace (with plenty of stops to watch the wildlife along the way.)

There appears that a group of herons have been living in this area for the past few years and they seemed very curious about my arrival making a number of fly-bys to check me out. I counted at least 6 of them on my trip. Hopefully you will get to see them as well. The fish were jumping all over the pond while I was there so feel free to bring along your rod and reel if you are so inclined.

I've placed this Rubbermaid container much higher from the waterline than the original cache hoping it doesn't meet the same fate as its predecessor.

Please hide the container EXACTLY as you found it and make sure it is well covered by the sticks and leaves to conceal it, and please make sure the lid is on securely before re-hiding it.
