Knut Hamsun was born on 4 August 1859 in Garmo, a remote mountain
hamlet on the western shore of Lake Vågå. He died at his country
estate Nørholm, near Grimstad, during the night of 19 February
1952. A life of 92 years and 6 months, stretching from the age of
horse-drawn carriages to that of the atom bomb. A life full of
restlessness and complications, yet at the same time a life rich in
experiences. And, most important of all, a life in the service of
words.
Nørholm is a private home and is not open to public, but you
will find a statue to the left of the house.

Norsk
En av verdens største litterater, Knut Pedersen – bedre kjent under
navnet Hamsun (Nobelpris i litteratur 1920), har tilfeldig krysset
Ibsens spor i Grimstad.
– Skaff meg et sted i sorenskriverstil, med susende trekroner!
skrev han til en venn da han var på jakt etter sitt dikterhjem. Fra
1918 til 1952 hadde han bopel på «Nørholm». Den vakre gården er
fortsatt i familiens eie. Du ser hovedhuset og de «susende
trekroner» fra hvor du parkerer for å finne denne cachen.
Nørholm er et privat hjem og ikke åpent for publikum, men en
byste er tilgjengelig på venstre side av grusveien som går forbi
hovedhuset.
