This is a virtual cache, so there is no cache container or log book. You can park fairly close to the actual cache location. This is a heavily visited area of the park, so be prepared to possibly do some searching in the presence of muggles.
So you're wondering why this cache is called "Unsettled Spirit", right? Well, the site you will be visiting, like most of the Gettysburg area, is said to be haunted. This cache focuses around the story of one particular spirit. You will need to figure out her first initial and last name to claim this find. We're working on the honor system for this one...no need to email us with the answer, but we trust you won't claim unless you've found it!
The story goes that many years ago, a young girl lived in Gettysburg on her family farm. She liked to help tend the fields with her father and was doing just that one day when the wagon they were riding hit a rock and threw the girl off. The father immediately jumped off to save his daughter only to find her lifeless, decapitated body. Apparently the wagon wheel decaptiated her before the father had a chance to save her. Legend has it that many people have since seen a young, headless girl wandering the battlefield in search of her head. According to the story, the girl, while searching for her head, came upon a certain geological formation, and burned her name into it with her fingertip. It is said if you trace the carving with your own finger, you will have misfortune and bad luck. The cache coordinates will lead you to the formation containing the name you need to claim this cache find.
Please note that there are other theories behind this carving. We chose to focus this cache around just this one story. We found it interesting and hope you will too! :)
