RESERVOIR DOGS
”Patrick's Secret Waterfall”
We were driving along the River south of
Lagro to do some maintenance on our ISQ POW cache, and all of a
sudden I'm lost and like "Where's the Cemetery? "What cemetery?"
growls Patrick. "I told you, you little dweeb", I say, "You know ,
Riverside". So he rolls his little brown dog eyes, sighs and goes "
It's in ANDREWS, you idiot!" Oh! Well! And that's how we
serendipidously found this cool new place to hide a
geocache...
Park at 40 49.165 and 85 40.98( you can
park much closer at Tailwater Fishing Site, but this way you get a
really nice short little hike thru the preserve, and after all
that's the point, isn't it? )Take the first trail to the left,
marked by the stone pile. Go around the lake, don't take the Fawn
Lake or Hillcrest Trails. Take the wide unmarked trail leading into
the woods by the lake near the shelter at 4518130 and 16 611192 and
then follow the Waterfall Trail. All the way from the parking area
to the Waterfall is on trails. When you get to the Waterfall, don't
fall off the edge--it's an easy bushwack to the cache. Waterfall is
about a 30' drop from top to pool, including cascades. If you take
the trail upstream that runs along the crik, there's supposed to be
another falls, but Patrick and I couldn't find it. There is an
interesting little dressed stone pair of bridge abutments
however...If anyone follows this trail (marked with numerous orange
ribbons) and finds the falls, email us the coordinates and you will
win a fabulous prize worth many times more than nothing, for your
efforts! (Many hours of exhaustive research resulted in our
translation for "Kokiwanee". Rumours that it stands for "Kokimo
Kiwanis" should be discredited.)
Other interesting Waterfall caches in the
general area include: "Lost My Marbles" (GCJ6KH) and "In Hominy
With Nature" (GC5E97).
At the end of CR600 (southern tip),
there is a very nice large picnic area for your lunch, with
Shelters, tables and grills... This cache is dedicated to the
Navy's Swift Boat Vietnam Vets, who were maliciously and falsely
maligned as war criminals in 1970 by one of their skippers, who is
in the news currently, touting himself as a "War
Hero"...
The cache container is a black plastic
peanut butter jar. Soak yourself in 100% DEET. Do not touch the
poison ivy, it’s our protected State Weed. Do not stick parts of
your body onto the raspberry thorns, they are our state sticker
bush. Do not put anything you find on the ground into your mouth.
Do not drink standing swamp water. In summer, clothes are optional,
BUT: No shirt, No shoes, No cache! Them’s the rules!
