Geocache Description:

A virtual cache in a quiet and peaceful spot, located halfway up the east coast of Lundy.

On a day trip from Bideford, there should be enough time to do all the Lundy caches (currently 7), climb the lighthouse, pray in the church, shop in the shop, etc. and sink a few pints in the Tavern.

Martin Harman owned Lundy from 1925 until his death in 1954. He introduced Lundy coins and stamps (available in the shop) and was reportedly "quite a character".
In 1944 his eldest son John was killed in action in Burma and was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross. A memorial plaque was placed in a quarry on the east side of the island. This place is now known as VC Quarry. Martin Harman recalled that his son had particularly enjoyed playing here as a young boy. To this day, hand written notes can be found here, left under stones, giving thanks for those who gave their lives in Burma.

To register a find, please e-mail us (using the link through the profile) with the text of the last line of the dedication on the plaque.
