Geocache Description:

No Zombies

THIS IS A MYSTERY CACHE. THE COORDINATES WILL NOT TAKE YOU TO THE CONTAINER. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE WHOLE CACHE PAGE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO FIND IT

Permission to place this cache has been granted by the Biology Department at Eastern Illinois University

Remember the old brainteaser, "How far can you walk into the woods?" Of course the answer is, "Half way." Because once you're half way in you're walking out of the woods! Get it?

The coordinates for this cache WILL NOT TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE! Rather, they are the parking coordinates. You're going to need to do some interesting work to arrive at the actual location for the cache.

Baber woods is almost perfectly square. In order to find this cache you will need to find the exact center of the woods (more or less). There are several methods that you could use to arrive at this. Pick the one that works for you.

For those of you who love the walk in the woods and the big box at the end, this one's for you!

Just a couple other notes, though:
1. Please do not post your coordinates on the cache page. If you do I will delete your find!
2. If you would like, please email me the coordinates you arrive at before you go. I will let you know whether you are close or not.
3. The cache is located on a gravel road. Be aware of that if you prefer to travel by motorcycle.

I remember when I was in grade school we would occasionally go on field trips to Baber Woods. When I moved back to Kansas this was one of the first places I thought about hiding a geocache. Thanks to FlowerDoc and some people he knows I was finally able to place this cache here.

The box you're going to find is a fairly large ammo can with a decent camo job (if I do say so myself). Original contents included:

  • A logbook
  • A camera to record your visit (please don't take any spoiler pictures. I'll post the pictures on this page later)
  • Various stress balls
  • Software
  • A coffee mug from my webpage (it didn't turn out so hot)
  • Various other things
