Luck o' the Irish / Springtime Event Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

SirGerald: It's been over a month since the event. I suppose it's time to archive it -- even though there are still two travel bugs logged here. Where did they go? I assume (and hope) they'll show up sometime.

Geocache Description:

Let's get together to CELEBRATE!

What are we celebrating?

St. Patrick's Day

First Day of Spring

Finding a cure for Cabin Fever

I can't wait for the Annual UTAG Meeting in May. I can't even wait until JeeperDad's Easter Egg Hunt Event in April. I want to party NOW.

Luck o' the Irish / Springtime Event -- Details:

  • WHEN: Scheduled for March 20, 2004, 11:00am to whenever we're done
  • WHERE: At the Rotary Park in American Fork. We'll reserve a covered pavilion for our lunch and other fun activities.
  • WHAT: This is not a boring business meeting -- this is a party.

What can you expect? Well, let's see...

    • Pot-Luck Lunch. I'll be supplying a couple of pots of chili. Bring your own dishes and drinks and something to share: veggies, chicken, shamrock-shaped cookies, your favorite cassarole, green jello, whatever. If the weather looks to be chilly, I'll have some hot chocolate to warm your hands and your heart.
    • Drawings for prizes, some small, some not-so-small(?). Raffle tickets will be used for the drawings. Everyone gets a raffle ticket just for showing up. Please consider bringing something to donate to the prize pool (you'll earn raffle tickets for donations).
    • Games and Activities. MOST of these activities will allow you to earn more raffle tickets. Earn tickets by volunteering to help out, too.
    • Food-Collection for donation to a local food bank. Earn raffle tickets for your donation. The more you donate, the more tickets you'll get.
    • The ever-popular Travel Bug Exchange. Sorry, no raffle tickets earned here.

What Prizes Are In The Drawing?

    • Two Travel Bug tags (courtesy of UTAG). One will be available only for those who don't already own one. The other one will be available for anyone to win.
    • Two micro Remote-Control Cars.
    • Two fleece blankets.
    • Two pairs of Marshmellow Guns plus some ammo.
    • A cute stuffed bunny.
    • A variety of other small fun items I haven't picked out yet.
    • ???

What Games / Activities Will There Be?

    • Face Painting for the kids and those older kids-at-heart.
    • Magnetic Fish Pond. Who knows WHAT you'll catch?
    • Shooting Gallery with marshmellow guns. I'll have extra marshmellow guns available for purchase if you're interested. Two guns plus a bag of ammo will be about $6.00.
    • Combined GPS Road Rally and Poker Run. Luck and skill will be involved, here. (Plus, you can do either or both parts.)
    • Geocaching Bingo. This is NOT like the Cach-U-Nut's Bingo game. It is a more traditional type of Bingo but with a Geocaching theme.
    • Since the weather looks to be GREAT, I think I'll set up a croquet game and I'll have a bocce game there as well.

What to do before the event:

    • Mark your calendar on March 20 so you won't forget this must-do event.
    • Invite family and friends
    • Post a Note on this cache page letting me know how many people to expect.
    • Also in your Note, let me know if you prefer Mild Chili, Regular Chili, or HOT CHILI. If enough ask for HOT chili, I'll make a separate batch of HOT chili. Otherwise, I'll just have some HOT sauce you can add to your own bowl. (Note that when I capitalize HOT, I mean it's REALLY SPICY HOT.)
    • Solve the Burma Cache #8 - Utah Valley Extreme cache to earn another raffle ticket.
    • (Optional) Put aside some cans of food to donate to a local food bank.
    • (Optional) Suggest another fun activity and offer to help with it.

What to bring to the Event:

    • Family and Friends. The more the merrier.
    • Your own dishes and drinks for lunch, and an appetite.
    • A Pot-Luck food item to share for lunch.
    • (Optional) Your food donation for a local food bank.
    • (Optional) A donation for the prize drawings. Earn raffle tickets for your donations.

Since this event is in March, we'll need the Luck o' the Irish to have some really good weather. So, everyone cross your fingers, rub that lucky rabbit's foot and hang those horseshoes with the pointy ends up so the luck won't run out. We'll need all the luck we can get.

Only severe weather will cause this event to be cancelled or postponed. Watch this page for updates.
