Leek: Cache Permanently Archived in Protest...

I will be transferring this cache's details to the geocaching.com.au site and several other global cache sites very soon...

Personally I don't like the way that geocaching.com plays the game!!!

See http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=88291 for further reasons...

Geocache Description:

Lane Cove Lake

Everyone around these parts has heard of Lane Cove River and Lane Cove National Park, but what about Lane Cove Lake?

Cache Information

  • This cache is situated a couple of metres off a little used track (the Yangoora Bushland Walk) through some beautiful Lane Cove bushland. The track runs a few metres from Epping Road, so don't expect peace and tranquility, but it is very pleasant on the eyes.
  • The track overlooks a man-made lake formed by an old dam built by the Cumberland Paper Board Mills in 1913. The lake is now well established and home to many types of water loving flora and fauna. The lake itself is on private property, so don't stray too far off the public track.
  • If you're very very very lazy, you can access the track and the cache from Epping Road near Sam Johnson Way, but I thoroughly recommend that you come in from the other end of the track to gain the most enjoyment... If you approach from the west, you will also help to re-establish the old public track that is becoming a little overgrown in places...
  • As the track is not that obvious and is close to private land, I'll tell you how to get there... Park at the large Shell service station on Epping Road, go around the back of the car wash (to the left) and turn left towards the gates to S.C. Johnson. Just before the gates, step over the low chain fence on your left and head through the patch of scrub behind the service station until you see the track that leads into the bush.
  • As this track is not used very often, you are likely to surprise many different species of local wildlife... Birds and lizards are plentiful and I saw a Red-bellied Black Snake on the road near S.C. Johnson See here...
  • You are looking for an ammo-box full of the usual goodies and a log-book. Please be gentle with the vegetation...
