Croxdale Woods Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.
Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."
If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,
Geocache Description:

Just off the A167, take the B6300 Brandon road at Sunderland Bridge, 3 miles south of Durham. Take next left and park along the old bridge. The walk starts through the gates towards the funny shaped tunnel bridge with a sign saying 'Bridal Way'.
Cache Contents: Log Book, Geo Stash Note, Swaps. Please sign the log book!

The walk starts near to the point where the River Browney joins the River Wear at Croxdale. On one side is a walk that takes you under a wonderful railway viaduct, along the riverbank, to the most beautiful bluebell woods I have ever seen! A must for late Spring! On the other side where the cache is placed, there is a hidden gem of a walk! The bridal way is very pleasant with its long tree lined avenue. The Croxdale Hall, a large house, has been home to the Salvin family since 1402, Croxdale is now seen as an 18th Century re-casing of an earlier Tudor building. Mid-Georgian rooms with Rococo ceilings, private chapel and fine gardens. Occasionally, the hall is open to the public.
