This is one of my favorite spots in South Austin because it has been kept so you can see many varieties of local plants, shrubs and trees. Fortunately for us, the land for this park is in a flood plain and the developer could never get approval to build houses here. Instead it was purchased by our homeowners association and reserved as an area park. The HOA built some hardscapes in it, like a playground and concrete jogging paths, but most of it has been minimally developed.
Most of the trails have been kept natural with small amounts of brush cleared away. Along the paths you can see birdhouses and a couple of bat shelters. Much of the trail work was done with the help of local Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, volunteers from the neighborhood and the 'Ladybird' Johnson Wildflower Center.
Bushwacking is required and there is a large amount of tree cover. Your GPSr will get you close, but rely on your searching ability to find the prize. The cache has lots of little goodies for all ages.
