Geocache Description:

This cache is a large 5.56mm ammo can hidden in Wet Camp Gap, a beautiful mile-high meadow off the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. From the cache and meadow, you will have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains of Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests. The trail winds through a lush high-elevation forest. The hike is an easy 1.5 miles from parking…so count on a 3 mile round-trip.

The trail begins on the northern end of the parking area. This is an access trail which will put you onto the Mountains to Sea trail at 0.6 mile. Walk past a gate and continue left on the MST uphill. You will wind through lush cove forests and soon after be rewarded by descending into Wet Camp Gap, an open meadow with exceptional views of the mountains. On crisp, clear days you can see for miles…so choose your day and weather wisely!

You will need to walk across the large meadow to access the cache. Near its hiding place, you will find a granite overlook that gives you the best views from the meadow! The cache is a large ammo can covered by sticks and boughs of evergreen. Please make sure it is well concealed when you are finished.
