Geocache Description:

A short uphill hike to a unique view of the City of Syracuse.

If you ever wondered where the City of Syracuse got the inspiration for its logo, this may be the spot. From here you can see the Carrier Dome, downtown Syracuse and the eastern end of Onondaga Lake in one unobstructed panorama.

From the small parking area (at N43 00.399, W076 07.668), follow the tire ruts to your left and up the hill. Although it looks like you might be able to drive up, do not attempt it – the path is washed out part way up, there’s no place to turn around, and it would be very hard to back down!

The first part of the hike is a fairly steep climb (150 feet change in elevation over two tenths of a mile), but then it levels out to a gentle uphill slope. Your GPS will tell you to branch off to the left (and you can if you want to go straight to the cache), but I recommend continuing on and taking the right (southerly) branch of the path for a nice view of the southern hills. The trail rejoins itself just before you would go back downhill to the east – make a U-turn onto the northerly branch of the trail and continue to the cache and the view of the City. Look up now and then - a large number of hawks nest not far from here.

If you take the recommended route, your total trek up and back will be about one mile. If you go straight to the cache, the total trek up and back is about a half-mile.
