Located off the Island Creek Forest Walk, the well-travelled paths will take you along the creek and past many types of plants and trees. Although 95 percent of your hike will be on the paths make sure to mark waypoints on your GPS to prevent getting lost.KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN FOR FOOT GRABBING ROOTS/BRANCHES. THEY COULD CAUSE YOU OR YOUR LITTLE GEOCACHER TO TRIP AND FALL.
Follow the path from the parking area located near N35°01.625 W77°08.173. As you proceed down the path with the creek on your right side you will come to another path that breaks to the right. Follow this path. As you do the creek will twist and turn but should always be on your right. Look for the large tree that is hollow at the bottom with a big open "slit" about eye level. You are real close now! Container is a small camoflaged "depressed" ammo box. CONDUCTED CACHE MAINTENANCE ON 5-12-03. I would highly suggest carrying extra batteries on this cache as well as a compass that you know how to use. Canopy cover is heavy for about 90% of the hike and you will probably lose satellite lock. Ticks and mosqitoes are out, be prepared for them. Today I left; (2) 14-card collector packs of NC Recycle Cards (good for kids) and 9 Team D.E.C.K. Cache Collector Cards.
