This is a theme cache with only a log book, a pencil, and marbles. No other trades are acceptable, only marbles.
Almost every kid growing up has had a collection of marbles. Marbles are small, hard balls made from clay, stone, wood, glass, steel or any other suitable material. They have been made for thousands of years and games with marbles are popular in countries around the world.
Names given to marbles vary considerably from town to town within each country. The best marbles are often known as ALLEYS. A marble actually being used by a player is often called a TAW or SHOOTER.
Marbles have been in existence for at least the past 3,000 years. They have been found in Egyptian pyramids and in North American Indian mounds.
Marbles can be categorized into three basic types: Handmade glass, Non-glass and Machine Made. The marbles sought after by collectors are handmade marbles, some select non-glass marbles (mainly chinas) and American machine mades produced before 1960.
There are numerous games that are played with marbles. These fall into two categories: Board games played with marbles as game pieces and "Street or Playground Games" where the marbles are the main piece and the object of play.
This cache has several marbles of varying color and composition. Feel free to trade one from your collection, or your kid’s. Original marbles in the cache are new and include the following designs: a lustered ruby, octopus, ticker tape, yellow peril, red tomato, spottie, clear blue, blue ice, and green globe.
