Our Home - The Illawarra
From beautiful beaches, to magnificent coastal bushland, the Illawarra is our home. The region stretches from Helensburgh in the north to Gerroa in the south, it encompasses 3 regional townships of Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama and is home to over 300000 residents.
The Illawarra has a wide and diverse culture, its primary industry is tourism, steel manufacturing and coal exports. The Illawarra hosts a wide variety of national and state sporting teams, along with plenty of adrenalin activities for those keen to try skydiving, hang-gliding, rock climbing and downhill mountain biking.
The word "illawarra" is derived from the Aboriginal Tharawal word "allowrie".
The Illawarra is home to some great geocaches and lots of geocachers call the Illawarra home. The Wollongong Lighthouse and Illawarra escarpment are part of our geocaching logo and make great places for this multi-cache.
