Celebrate World Postcard Day by sending a postcard to a stranger somewhere in the world!
Come to Gibson's Fish & Chips where we will gather to have a bite and send some postcards.
What is Postcrossing? You get an address of a random person who is also participating in this project, along with their short profile description. Then you pick a postcard for them, write your message and their address, stick some stamps and mail it!
Please read the event description below as you might want to prepare in advance!
If you would like to mail a card, during this event you will have a choice to mail a postcard with two options:
- Create an account on Postcrossing.com (recommended to do prior the event) and request an address(-es) yourself. Once your card has been received and registered, you will receive a card too! New accounts are limited to sending 5 cards max.
- This option is great for those who want to receive a card for themselves, and/or are interested in continuing postcrossing in the future.
- If you request an address prior the event, you will want to have that information handy at the event - either print or bring a smart device. Then you will know exactly how many stamps you'll need, as postage varies by country.
- If you prefer not to create a postcrossing account, note that in your Will Attend log by September 30th. This way the host will request an address through her account (over 30 addresses are available at the time) and all you'll have to do is write the message, address and mail the card!
- This option is great for those who do not want to receive a card from a stranger.
Whichever option you decide to choose, you might want to:
- bring post stamps (1 or 3 Permanent stamps are recommended)
- bring a postcard you want to send (optional - there will be plenty to choose from at the event)
- bring stationery - pens, markers, stickers (optional)
Please note that mailing postcards is optional - you might as well come to this event and just sign the logbook!
I have been postcrossing for over 16 years so I have too many postcards sitting in a box waiting to be sent... Which is why I'm bringing them to this event to help them find a new home. I will also provide some post stamps if needed.
FYI, postage required to mail one card:
- Canada - $1.15 or one Permanent stamp
- USA - $1.40 or two Permanent stamps
- Anywhere else in the world - $2.92 or three Permanent stamps.
- You may also get a prepaid postcard from Canada Post (costs $2.92) and mail it anywhere in the world.
Please note your choice of participation, as well as any questions you have in your Will Attend log.
