The 30-minute World Wide Flash Mob Caching Event
The World Wide Flash Mob Event: Hundreds of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to geocaching. The event will last EXACTLY 30 minutes, not one second longer. It will begin precisely at 10:00am on Saturday September 14th, 2024 and end at 10:30am. The event will be held at Lagoon Beach on the pier. This is in an open public space. This venue offers parking nearby and promises a fantastic backdrop of Table Mountain to represent us in the World Wide Flash Mob gallery.
10:10am: A single whistle will sound indicating cachers to converge at the posted coordinates. At this point, all geocachers will converge, seeming to come out of "nowhere". Before this time, please walk around the park and act like a muggle.
10:15am: We will drop for the Cape Town Centipede group photo.
10:25am: Participants will sign the log sheet.
10:25am-10:30am: Geo-talk with fellow cachers.
10:30am: A double whistle will sound and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away.
Suggestion: Come early, to ensure that you do not miss the event. Although participants are welcome to get together after the event, the event will officially be over at 10:30am. Afterwards, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching!
I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the fun!)
The WWFM idea was started in 2007 after 2 cachers attended a mega-event. It was meant to be a fun “opposite” of a mega-event: all the cool aspects of a geocaching event, crammed into 15 minutes of excitement. An added dimension is represented by the letters "WW" - World Wide - these events occur across the planet on the same day at (mostly) the same time! These caching events are intended to bring geocachers together in a creative way, as well as introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.
