SLO:
ENG:
Between Škofja Loka, Kranj and Medvode, between Sora, Sava and the railway, there is the Sorško polje, full of tiny interesting corners that we don't notice or pass them by.
Hidden in the valley among the trees is the Gramozno jezero (Gravel Lake), or some call it Ribnik (pond). Now the lake islittle forgoten, only some walkers, cyclists or maybe an excavator and a truck pass by it. Locals know it because they used to swim and caching fish in it. The lake was not created naturally. It has a sandy bottom because they used to dig sand in this area. In 1986, the Sava River was dammed for the needs of HPP Mavčiče. At that time, the hole began to fill with groundwater and this lake was created up to the level of the Sava River above the HPP Mavčiče dam. So the water level was several meters higher than now and the valley was more full of water.
The water level of the pond began to drop, probably due to the increasing impermeability of the HP Mavčiče reservoir lake, due to the accumulation of silt at the bottom. The water level has dropped by several meters, and today the pond has a maximum depth of 3 m. Once the area of the pond was 3 ha, but today it is only an area of 0.7 ha. A very unusual feature of the lake is the high content of dissolved oxygen in the water, due to which brook trout once lived in it.
