Geocache Description:

St Mary's Church is a good example of a small Gothic Revival Church in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey, Wales. It was built in 1853 to serve the village in the Diocese of Bangor and is a Grade II-listed building.

The church's east stained glass window shows several Biblical scenes was dedicated to Henry Paget, 1st Marquess of Anglesey, and the west stained glass window is a picture of Jesus and the Twelve Apostles dedicated to Sir Robert Waller Otway, 1st Baronet. The churchyard contains five Commonwealth war graves, of two Royal Welsh Fusiliers soldiers and a Merchant sailor of World War I, and a Merchant and a Royal Navy sailor of World War II.

Conglomerate and Breccia are supposedly the only true sedimentary rocks. Conglomerate and Breccia are commonly formed as rock-fall and debris flow deposits along cliffs, and underground along faults or where caves collapse. They are both composed of larger clasts (rock fragments) surrounded by a matrix of finer-grained material, but they differ in the shape and size of the clasts.

Conglomerate

Conglomerate is a clastic sedimentary rock that forms from the cementing of rounded cobble and pebble sized rock fragments.

A conglomerate typically contains a matrix of finer-grained sediments, such as sand, silt, or clay, which fills the interstices between the clasts.

Conglomerate is formed by river movement or ocean wave action.

Breccia

Breccia is a rock formed from angular gravel and boulder-sized clasts cemented together in a matrix

Breccia is a clastic sedimentary rock. This means it forms from larger fragments of preexisting rock which are cemented together after experiencing weathering, erosion, and deposition

Breccia is composed of coarse rock fragments held together by cement or a fine-grained matrix

1) Look at the archway leading to the church, do you think some of the blocks contain conglomerate or breccia?

2) Please explain what you see in the blocks?

3) What is the average pebble /fragment size you see?

4) please include a picture of yourself or a personal item with the church in the background
