[IT] Le mura Scaligere di Treviso vennero costruite tra il 1329 e il 1338, con lo scopo di ampliare, a ridosso del fiume Sile, le già esistenti mura merlate. Erano realizzate in mattoni cotti, senza riparo esterno e senza alcun sostegno interno. Tale struttura era pensata per resistere alle tecniche di assalto medievali come testuggini, catapulte e arieti.
Nel corso degli anni però, con la crescita della popolazione, si addossarono alla cinta muraria numerose costruzioni sia dall’interno che dall’esterno, trovando in esse un facile riparo ad eventuali attaccanti e ciò compromise in parte la loro funzionalità.
Le mura medievali, tra cui le Scaligere, vennero demolite quasi totalmente nel ‘500 con l’arrivo della Repubblica di Venezia in terra ferma, a favore delle attuali mura che oggi conosciamo.

[ENG] The Scaliger walls of Treviso were built between 1329 and 1338, with the aim of expanding the already existing crenellated walls close to the Sile river. They were made of fired bricks, without external shelter and without any internal support. This structure was designed to resist medieval assault techniques such as tortoises, catapults and battering rams.
Over the years, however, with the growth of the population, numerous buildings were built against the walls both inside and outside, finding in them an easy shelter for potential attackers and this partially compromised their functionality.
The medieval walls, including the Scaliger, were almost completely demolished in the 16th century with the arrival of the Republic of Venice on the mainland, in favor of the current walls that we know today.
