Prepare for the 7th Geocaching Road Rally - Waukesha Edition! Kalkranz jumped in this year to save my sanity from planning and hiding and together we've found quite a few new locations to highlight. This year we will be meeting at the picnic shelter at Calhoun Park. Rain or shine.
A few years ago, Chris (WalkingAdventure) added the Fox Valley Road Rally on the opposite year. These events have been some of the highlights of my geocaching experiences.
Geo-chatting all day long! If not rallying, come for dinner and to watch other cachers come back in from the rally. ALL are welcome to attend the event and enjoy the food and geo-chat.
You will have 4 hours to find as much as you can - Mike and I are designing this and expect no one will be able to finish everything. The caches will all be permanent, so you can come back and find them another day :)
Each team will go out simutaneously this year.
Although this is mostly for fun, this can also be rather competitive and usually is.

For those of you unfamiliar with a road rally, its a competition with a combination of an "Amazing Race" meets scavenger hunt meets, in this case, geocaching skill challenge. Each team will consist of 3-6 individuals. We will be preparing this rally more like a "Great Urban Race" competition instead of a defined course. Instead of following a planned route, it will be up to your team to strategize and determine where you go, what caches you will find and what tasks to complete. Each team will be allowed only 1 motorized vehicle.
Previous winning teams for this event -
2012 - Cannonball Run (sevencards, geohunter, lucky7z, jspleva)
2014 - Team 7 (Uncle Fun, sarge, 3Hawks, Wheelers of Fortune)
2016 - Deathrace 3000 (lobsters, wildcardK aka 'vin, candyman, sparkseeker)
2018 - Deathrace 4000 (lobsters, heavin, candyman)
2020 - lackwalkranz (lacknothing, Walking Adventure, kalkranz)
2022 - Team 7 (Uncle Fun, Big Macs with a Little Nugget, Sarge)
Each team will need the following:
1) One member to bring a digital camera (or phone) and be the photographer and digital scavenger hunter
2) One member to bring a vehicle with enough gasoline in it to go 20-40 miles and enough room to fit the entire team.
3) One member with good reading / navigating skills.
4) One member with a valid drivers license.
5) A smartphone - some caches will be published at the onset of the race.
6) $5 per team member to complete certain tasks
7) A plastic bag to bring back scavenger hunt items
8) BYOP
Children are welcome and encouraged to attend the event, there is a nice playground at the park, but I would recommend only kids 12 or older on a rally team given the number of stops and getting in and out of the car safely and quickly. You know your children best so ultimately the choice is up to you.
Scoring rules announcements will be made closer to the rally date. But its really not about the rules, its about the fun and camaraderie with fellow cachers!
Let us know if there are any questions!
Disclaimer: Everything on the course is optional. This is not a race, its a rally. Go at your own speed. Obey all laws.
