For this geocache challenge, we encourage you to reflect on the sport of skateboarding. You are at Ypsilanti Township's CommUNITY Skatepark. This skatepark opened to the public in September 2020. It incorporates street-style and bowl skating, with rails, ramps, stairs, and ledges.
Skateboarding originated in the late 1940s and early 1950s in California. It was born out of surfer culture to catch the feeling of waves when none were available. Some called it, "sidewalk surfing." The first skateboards manufactured were available in surf shops. Soon, competitions developed with skate teams from surf and skate shops. Skateboarding grew in popularity not only from coast to coast but across the world. Now, it is an Olympic sport.
