We used to bring our kelpie Rockie here may years ago as a young family when we lived in the area. We would picnic under the tree and often have brunch at the nearby cafe. There was many a baby cino had and a giggle on the swings and adventure down the slide. On returning after many years there is now a memorial to Flight Lieutenant Leslie (Les) Gordon Knight who lived at Bowen Street. The memorial plaque bears the story of his bravery after being involved in and surviving, the Dambusters Raid. Shortly after he heroically lost his life in another raid. Flight Lt Knight kept his badly damaged aircraft stable long enough for his crew of 7 to bail out and maneuvered his stricken aircraft away from the Dutch Village of Den Ham at remarkably low altitude. He then crashed and heroically lost his life. The Village commemorates his sacrifice to this day. Lest We Forget.
