👉🏻 🛰️🛰️🛰️ BLUE SWITCH DAY! 🛰️🛰️🛰️👈🏻
On the 24th anniversary of the switching off the Selective Availability of the satellites 🛰️ let's celebrate by having lunch together.
At
The Slipway Cafe Bar,
RNLI College,
West Quay Road,
Poole,
BH15 1HZ
11.30am ~~ 1.30pm
(Or until the last person leaves)!
Before May 2000, Selective Availability restricted accurate GPS technology to military use. However, on Blue Switch Day, the U.S. government made a landmark decision which opened up accurate GPS technology for public use. Geocachers commemorate this day as a milestone, marking it with pride and celebration. The very first geocache was placed the very next day on 3 May 2000.
Geocaching HQ are awarding a special Blue Switch souvenir to anyone who logs a geocache, Adventure Lab® event between 2-5 May, so if this is your first log of the day, you'll earn yourself a nice new souvenir 😀
As this is a day of celebration, I am planning on publishing my latest set of Adventure Labs® in the morning, so allow yourself about 3/4 of an hour either before or after the event if you wish to complete the set of 5 nearby.
