Geocache Description:

Highway 219 was renamed the Chief Whitecap Trail by the province in 2009. Signs along the highway – which stretches from Saskatoon to Danielson Provincial Park – show a graphic representation of Chief Whitecap on a horse.  The figure on the sign is wearing a head dress, traditionally worn by First Nations leaders, and is carrying a peace pipe, symbolic of the positive relationships established by Chief Whitecap with settlers in the area.  Chief Whitecap is credited with advising John Lake of the Temperance Colonization Society of Toronto to settle on land on the east bank of the South Saskatchewan River, which would later become Nutana and subsequently Saskatoon.

This is quite a scenic drive south of the city although the road can be busy at times so be careful in pulling off and back onto the road.
