Geocache Description:

18 April 2024, 09:30 - 10:00

This event  is for both visiting and local geocachers, ICEman and I welcome any people on the cruise ship Koningsdam and of course anyone else!

We hope the time, 9:30 am to 10 am is convenient for all.

The location, William G. Irwin Memorial Park is on both the Hawaii and National Register of Historic Place.  It has flowers, an old water feature, monkey-pod trees for shade, and this event. Across the street is a hula dancer statue. It is a short walk from the cruise terminal, near the Aloha Tower in an area that has a lot of history.  The area looks REALLY different now then it did decades ago.

On September 3, 1930, the Territory of Hawaii entered into an agreement with Hélène Irwin Fagan and Honolulu Construction and Draying, Ltd. (HC&D), whereby HC&D sold some property to Fagan, who then donated it to the Territory with the stipulation that the property honor her father and that it be maintained as a “public park to beautify the entrance to Honolulu Harbor.

The Honolulu Waterfront Development Project was completed in 1934 with the creation of a 2-acre oasis shaded by the canopies of monkey-pod trees (shading a parking lot;) Irwin Memorial Park is located mauka of the Aloha Tower Marketplace bounded by North Nimitz Highway, Fort Street, Bishop Street and Aloha Tower Drive. Let’s get together to talk geocaching, maybe trade trackable items, get some pictures, and maybe do some more geocaching together.
