For history of this Churchyard please see below.
The work involved is removal and disposal of Rhodrodendrons.
This is manual and heavy work, so unfortunately is unsuitable for children and wheelchair users.
Also note there are very limited facilities on site, just use of Sports Ground toilets.
Gardening gloves and/or saws required.
Many of the original graves are completely covered by the invasive rhodrodendrons which
St Peter's Church ministry and congregation are slowly removing and making these graves accessible.
Any assistance in this work will be much appreciated; for more information please contact me via my geocaching profile..
History of this churchyard.
The cemetery adjoins Chailey Memorial Commons and once was the burial ground for St Mary's Church.
The church of St Mary the Virgin was erected at North Common as a chapel of ease to St Peter's Church, Chailey Green, in 1876.
In 1974 it was transferred to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.
It ceased to be used as a church 1991 and was eventually sold as a private residence.
However the churchyard remains open and burials still take place there, conducted by St Peter's Church of Chaily Green.
