What will happen at the event?
This Hobbit Day event will consist of geocachers coming together to have a bit of a catch up and share a meal. Last year was fantastic, It was great to have everyone bringing an item for the meal and this time that would be very helpful again.
We will be providing a few of the main items, and we encourage people to bring something a hobbit might like to nibble on for an evening meal. If you have an idea of what you may be able to bring let me know in your log or message me please.
We will be hosting with an atempt of Hobbit style foods and an activity if we can steal ourselves away from any conversation we may be having.
When everyone is in and ready to go we will have dinner at about 6.30pm
Our home is not wheelchair friendly though we will do our best to accomodate anyone who can attend.
Today is Hobbit day... what is a hobbit?
I suppose hobbits need some description nowadays, since they have become rare and shy of the Big People, as they call us. They are (or were) a little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded Dwarves. Hobbits have no beards. There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps them to disappear quietly and quickly when large stupid folk like you and me come blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off. They are inclined to be fat in the stomach; they dress in bright colours (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly); have long clever brown fingers, good-natured faces, and laugh deep fruity laughs (especially after dinner, which they have twice a day when they can get it). Now you know enough to go on with.
What Is Hobbit Day?
Hobbit Day observes the birthdays of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, the two main characters from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Additionally, Hobbit Day commemorates Bilbo's infamous 111th birthday soiree, known as the "Long Awaited Party". The Fellowship of the Ring begins with the "Long Awaited Party", which triggers the events of the beloved trilogy.
When Is Hobbit Day?
Hobbit Day is on September 22nd. It coincides with the first day of fall and is the perfect, cozy celebration to kick off the autumnal equinox. Or in our case, Spring.
