Years ago this area was known to locals as "Red Hill". It was a local landmark. People referred to the area when giving directions etc... For example "just a little past Red Hill" or "you know that swampy area right past Red Hill, that is where you are most likly to see Bigfoot in these parts" (which is still true). Back in the day this whole area looked like this photo only with less brush and trees. For kids like me the place was fascinating. Once, my cousin and I rode our motorcycles (mine was a heavily modified Kawasaki 90) over here from our grandparent's house a few miles back toward Wheelock. For fun we rode them up to the top of what was then a distinct bluff, parked them and sat on the edge waiting for cars to drive by. I think we gave up after a while, back then there was not much traffic out here. Those were the days.
