Sydney's heritage listed Royal National Park is affectionately known to locals as the 'Nasho' or just 'the Royal'. Established in 1879, it's the world's second oldest national park.

Located near Bundeena within an hours drive from both the Sydney CBD and Wollongong, the 16,000ha Royal National Park is like a big beautiful backyard.

Litter accumulation is a major problem in the Royal - from ad hoc dumping of residential and trade waste to litter thrown from vehicles, picnic litter and ocean born litter on any of the Royal's beautiful ocean and estuarine beaches.

Friends of the Royal National Park is a volunteer group who meet in the park and do weed control and bush regeneration, track trimming and litter collection.They have kindly agreed to allow us to join with them to help clean up a section of the park at Marley beach.




Geocaching NSW would like to invite all Geocachers to come and join us to help clean up a part of this wonderful national park. You can earn the first CITO season souvenir for 2024 by attending.

We will meet at Marley Beach at 9am. There are several ways to reach the beach. You can park at the end of Beachcomber Avenue in Bundeena. There is no parking cost to park here. Or you can also choose to park at Wattamolla car park. Park at the end of Wattamolla Road, however if you park inside the Royal National Park, it will cost $12 per vehicle per day. Payment options include Audley Visitor Centre, vehicle entry stations, pay machines and the Park'n'Pay app. For vehicles over 8 seats, payment of $4.40 per adult and $2.20 per child, per day, is required. However if anyone would like to send me an email at kathyweatherley@y7mail.com with a contact name,vehicle registration, phone number and email address we can arrange a day pass to get you in for free. Please do this a week before the event, so we have time to organise the passes.

Either trail to the CITO location is mostly fire trail with some rocky sections. Follow the signs for "The Coast Track". The views are amazing and the wildflowers stunning.There are a few uphill sections to get some exercise but otherwise quite flat and easy. There are lots of pass points along the boardwalk and lots of photo opportunities.The trail is well defined and fairly easy going. Take care as there can be strong winds and occasionally the path goes quite close to the cliff edge. During the walk, you will see many different types of birds typical of this area along with kangaroos and other wildlife so keep your eyes out for the wildlife. 

Generally considered a moderately challenging route, the walk from either end in takes about an average of 1 hour to complete.



Please bring plenty of water, some snacks and/or lunch, a hat, sunscreen, gloves and your enthusiasm to clean up this beautiful part of the world. The park will supply bags and take the rubbish away.

We are working with the Friends of the Royal National Park, but this is still a geocaching event. Look out for GCNSW members in their polo shirts, make sure you say hi, and sign the logbook with the Geocaching logo at the posted coordinates?

Sorry no dogs allowed in the National park, Geopooches will have to miss out on this one.
