My friend, John Dunn Ferguson 1939-2021
My pal Fergie was a gifted sculptor, an avid sailor and an all-around great guy. John spent much of his life in and around Baltimore, working at the Maryland Institute, College of Art and Harford Community College at different times. His career was long and interesting and John's work can be found all over the Baltimore area. In addtion to Octavia I near the Towson University Center for the Arts, there are original Fergusons on the Goucher College Campus, in BWI, near the Maryland Institute College of Art, in front of the Condo building at Cross Keys, and next to my house, not to mention the Hirshhorn Museum at the Smithsonian Institute. Waypoints for some of these are included (not necessary to visit to claim the find on the Virtual Cache). Many more are on display inside homes and offices. Fergie would be very humbled by your interest in claiming this cache, and in the process, learning a bit about a gifted local artist.
John created sculpture out of many different metals. Octavia I, sculpted in the 1980s, is made of corten (or COR-TEN) steel. He also worked in other types of steel and bronze and later in his life on works of a much smaller scale.
