Here it comes again, Sequoia's annual assult on The Pinnacles. Lace up those boots and take a hike. New location, same park. This location has views to the North. Fort Overlook I believe it is called. This is a less popular overlook so we should have it to ourselves. If by some chance you approach from below, be sure and wave to the folks at the event about 60 feet straight up. You will need to run and make all the correct turns to get here on time.
To get here, Parking and trailhead is given in waypoints. Follow the trail straight up the mountain to the top. Set a course for GC9HP1F Satans Spice shelf, staying on top of the ridge until you are at ground zilch. There are park trails all way to the event. However, the last couple hundred feet are not used nearly as much as some of the other trails.
If High Terrain is your thing, Park at West Pinnacle trail parking N37˚33.823' W084˚15.195' and take the trail to west pinnacle. To reach the tippy top, it requires a 4.9 climb on exposed cliff face (I did it last year with partial ice in places. Yes, it can be done). I suggest not doing this alone unless you have climbing experience. From West Pinnacle heading East, stay left (remain on top of the ridge) take the extreme trail past the extreme and follow the left side cliff edge to ground zilch. This is my preferred trail to the top.
Event runs from 10:02 to 10:32 or until the last person leaves. Permission for group hikes are not required unless charging a fee, so this hike if free! What a deal. To make the deal even sweeter, (Before the event and not required to attend the event) Anyone wishing to join me at Cracker Barrel at The State route 21 & Interstate 75 exit at 7:00 am is welcome. N37˚34.076' W084˚18.603' Please let me know in your will attend log if you are coming for breakfast so I can give them an accurate number. There are motels at this exit as well.
