Geocache Description:

About - Chester House Estate

1/2 caches on this walk.

'The shallow crossing point of the Nene at Chester House was vital to the conquering Romans and as the thriving and important route developed, so did the town. This period is the first time that any settlement that could be called a town existed in Britain.'

Chester House Estate is a great place to visit either for the historical setting and museum, the lovely cafe and estate walks. It is also a lovely halfway stop if you are doing the long River walk from wellingborough to Irthlingborough.

There is plenty of parking off Claudius Way, then a short walk to the house and geocache site. You can access the caches on foot anytime via the river entrance, but the site gates are only open between 9am - 4pm 7days a week. There is an accessible car park on the next exit off the A45 called Lime Avenue car park, but most of the walks are on arable land and sloped so not suitable for all. There are no steps, but beware of rabbit holes.

This is one of two microcaches on this walk. There area is prone to flooding during winter so caution should be observed during this time and might even be unaccessible if the flooded, but lovely walk any other time of year.

The site is adjacent to the a internationally recognised Special Protection Area for overwinter birds. Therefore if you are bringing your furry friends, please remember to keep them on leads when hunting for this cache.

Bring tweezers and keep your eyes open.
