This is a very interesting place to visit with your family. First let’s set the era up for you. It’s the early 1930’s, and America is in the great depression. Families are considered lucky if they have a roof over their head. This area is a place of gathering for the citizens of Mountain Home Idaho during this period of time. The area was dedicated to the rich diversity of immigrants that populated the township.

When you are here, look to the south and you’ll notice the shining rails of the railroad. This is what caused the city of Mountain Home to be located here. Occasionally you’ll see a passing train and feel the tremendous power shake the earth beneath your feet. Look to the west and you’ll notice the grain towers where farmers still store their crops while waiting to be shipped to far off markets. Now turn around to the north, notice highway US 30 borders the north edge of the area. In those days there wasn’t any freeways. US 30 was the main highway from coast to coast. Let your eyes drift across highway US 30 to the storefronts and imagine in those days this was the center of the business district. Anyone traveling from the east coast to the west coast came right by here.
