Many years ago, a geocacher by the name of findingbill decided to place a series of caches all around Sebastopol. Each of the caches was on one of the guardrails along roads in the town, and the series was aptly named the Gaurding Sebastopol Series. There were caches in every corner of Sebastopol, each with a number needed to find the final cache. The guards, as they were called, protected Sebastopol and contributed to cachers' find counts for fourteen years. Unfortunately, the guards started to - well - let their guard down. They had more DNFs, and some of their home guardrails were falling into disrepair. One fateful morning, one of the guards fell. This set off a domino effect throughout the day. One by one, the guards fell and were archived, until the whole series was gone.
The Guarding Sebastopol series stood for fourteen years, and inspired many great caches, including our own series. The guardrail adjacent to GZ is the site of one of the caches, the only one that we were able to find before the series was archived. In honor of this great series, we placed this cache, the last stand of the Guards of Sebastopol.
We hope you enjoy it and the story of this series inspires you as much as us.
