Il villaggio Cornus venne fondato dai Cartaginesi alla fine del VI secolo a.C. e successivamente passò sotto il dominio romano.
Il momento più importante del villaggio è il tardoantico, durante il quale si sviluppò il complesso cristiano di Columbaris, poco lontano dal centro abitato. Sono stati individuati tre edifici basilicali e, nel settore più ad Est, una grande area cimiteriale. Quest'ultima sembrerebbe avere avuto la sua prima fase durante il III secolo o nella prima metà del IV d.C., quando il precedente edificio termale romano fu convertito a scopo funerario. La prima basilica venne edificata nello stesso periodo, mentre le altre due tra il V e il VI secolo d.C.
The Cornus village was founded by the Carthaginians at the end of the 6th century BC. and subsequently came under Roman rule.
The most important moment of the village is the late antiquity, during which the Christian complex of Columbaris developed, not far from the inhabited centre. In this area there are three basilica buildings and, in the easternmost sector, a large cemetery. The latter would seem to have had its first phase during the 3rd century or in the first half of the 4th century AD, when the previous Roman bath building was converted for funerary purposes. The first basilica was built in the same period, while the other two between the 5th and 6th century AD.
