The original Cantril School was built on what was called Schoolhouse Hill in the 1800s. When that wood-frame building burned, the current stone building was built in 1896 to replace it.
This building became the first high school in Douglas County and students came from all over the county. Some boarded with Castle Rock residents.
The school has always been the home to academia. First as a school, and now as the offices of the Douglas County School District.
The hallowed halls still echo with the sound of children, or something. The building is reported to be haunted by a ghost named, "Matilda."
To claim this geocache email the number found on the front of the building. Photos are fine if the number has blown down again. JimReeb@ecentral.com
