Kranj je po velikosti četrto slovensko mesto in največje na Gorenjskem. Razprostira se na 148 km2 in je gospodarsko, trgovsko, prometno, izobraževalno in kulturno središče Gorenjske. Kranj se je razvil na ravnini ob sotočju rek Save in Kokre v geografskem središču Gorenjske med predgorjem Julijskih Alp in osrednjimi Kamniško-Savinjskimi Alpami ter Karavankami. Z imenom Creina se prvič pojavi 1060 v briksenških tradicijskih listinah.

Staro mestno jedro s svojimi arhitekturnimi posebnostmi ponuja slikovita in romantična prizorišča s prijetno atmosfero. Ogledate si lahko različne znamenitosti, kot so Prešernov gaj, Prešernovo gledališče s spomenikom Franceta Prešerna (najbolj znanega pesnika romantičnega obdobja pri nas), potem mestno hišo, Pavšlarjevo hišo, ki je primer bogate meščanske stavbe iz 16. stoletja, Grad Khislstein, ki predstavlja utrdbeno področje od antičnega obdobja do zgodnjega srednjega veka, v njem pa domuje tudi Gorenjski muzej. Kranjsko kulturno četrt poleg naštetih tvorijo še Galerija Prešernovih nagrajencev, Layerjeva hiša, Stolp Škrlovec...

Če vas zanima narava, vam je na voljo Kanjon reke Kokre, ki je v neposredni bližini starega mestnega jedra in ob katerem je speljana tudi učna pot. Je drugi najvišji obmestni kanjon v Evropi, postaja pa vse bolj priljubljena točka za oddih in sprostitev.

Kranj developed on a plain at the confluence of the Sava and Kokra rivers, in the geographical center of Gorenjska, nestled between the foothills of the Julian Alps and the central Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the Karawanks. The name Creina first appears in 1060 in the Brixen tradition documents.

The old town center, with its architectural peculiarities, offers picturesque and romantic scenes with a pleasant atmosphere. You can visit various attractions such as Prešeren Park, Prešeren Theater with the monument of France Prešeren (the most famous romantic poet in our country), the town hall, Pavšlar House, which is an example of a wealthy bourgeois building from the 16th century, Khislstein Castle, which represents a fortified area from the ancient period to the early Middle Ages and also houses the Gorenjska Museum. The cultural district of Kranj, in addition to the mentioned, includes the Prešeren Award Winners' Gallery, Layer House, Škrlovec Tower...

If you're interested in nature, there's the Kokra River Canyon, which is in the immediate vicinity of the old town center, and along which a nature trail is also laid out. It is the second-highest urban canyon in Europe and is becoming an increasingly popular spot for relaxation and leisure.

Sie erstreckt sich über 148 km2 und ist das wirtschaftliche, kommerzielle, verkehrstechnische, bildungstechnische und kulturelle Zentrum von Gorenjska. Kranj entwickelte sich auf einer Ebene am Zusammenfluss der Flüsse Save und Kokra, im geografischen Zentrum von Gorenjska, zwischen den Ausläufern der Julischen Alpen und den zentralen Kamnik-Savinja Alpen und den Karawanken. Der Name Creina erscheint erstmals 1060 in den Brixner Traditionsdokumenten.

Das alte Stadtzentrum bietet mit seinen architektonischen Besonderheiten malerische und romantische Kulissen mit einer angenehmen Atmosphäre. Sie können verschiedene Sehenswürdigkeiten besichtigen, wie den Prešeren-Park, das Prešeren-Theater mit dem Denkmal von France Prešeren (dem bekanntesten romantischen Dichter unseres Landes), das Rathaus, das Pavšlar-Haus, ein Beispiel für ein wohlhabendes bürgerliches Gebäude aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, die Burg Khislstein, die eine befestigte Anlage von der Antike bis zum frühen Mittelalter darstellt und in der auch das Gorenjska Museum untergebracht ist. Zum Kulturviertel von Kranj gehören neben den genannten auch die Galerie der Prešeren-Preisträger, das Layer-Haus, der Škrlovec-Turm...

Wenn Sie an der Natur interessiert sind, steht Ihnen die Schlucht des Flusses Kokra zur Verfügung, die sich in unmittelbarer Nähe des alten Stadtzentrums befindet und entlang derer auch ein Lehrpfad angelegt ist. Es handelt sich um die zweithöchste Stadtschlucht in Europa und wird immer beliebter als Ort der Entspannung und Erholung.
