WHAT IS LETTERBOXING?
Letterboxing is a type of free time outdoor activity. Originally it was about finding hidden containers in the nature (waterproof boxes) while using hints, maps and compass as help to find the “letterbox” which usually contains a stamp, a pen and a logbook. For some letterboxes the published coordinates can be used directly when using a GPS-device. The finder often has an own personal logbook in which he can imprint the letterbox’s stamp and also leaves his personal stamp in the letterbox’s logbook behind as proof of having found the box and letting other finders know who has visited.
Letterboxing therefore is precursor of modern Geocaching.
Nowadays letterboxing has become part of Geocaching. Basically it is the combination of traditional letterboxing and a normal Geocache. By putting a stamp inside the cache you can transform any cache into a letterbox and finders can still imprint that stamp in their personal logbook. But even though it is that simple, there was not a single letterbox cache here in Albania when I first came here. So I had to change that and therefore I am happy to introduce you: ALBANIA’S FIRST LETTERBOX!
Now careful for those who are new to letterboxing. When you find the cache you can just proceed as if it was a normal cache, leave you nickname in the logbook and log it as found. But inside the box you will also find a customized stamp that you can use, but don’t have to use. This is not a trading object! The stamp is part of the cache so please leave it in the box.
NOW ABOUT THE CACHE:
You will find this cache in a public park area in Tirana. It is in the Tirana Grand Park, also called Artificial Lake Park. You will find it close to the geological faculty of Tirana University located inside the Park. The rounded building is surrounded by a fence. You can entry the university area but you do not have to. The cache is located outside this territory near the fence. When coming from the eastern entrance following the fence after the corner you will have to continue for ca. 30m and then discover a small concrete and brick ruin 5 meters away from the fence. Underneath the highest point of that ruin is the container, hidden underneath a couple of bricks. It is a waterproof plastic box. There is also enough space to leave a travel bug here.
PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN FINDING. There are A LOT of MUGGLES in the park area, even at this part. So please hide the cache well again. Make it become invisible for muggles. I want this to stay here for some time.
After finding the cache you can enjoy this lovely park area and beautiful nature. You might even discover some animals like turtles near the cache. At least I saw a turtle right next to me when hiding the cache.
