The floods of 2022 were certainly the biggest event that affected our region here in the Goulburn Valley in 2022. Impacting towns from Seymour to Echuca with many many road closures, homes and businesses impacted with floodwater and isolated from the rest of the community for a period of time. Also sadly the loss of a couple of lives in the process. Shepparton has the Seven Creeks and Broken River join the Goulburn River so with the huge amount of rainfall in such a short period of time the river rose quickly. As worrying as it was, it was fascinating to watch. The Goulburn and Shepparton Lake became one spreading onto Wyndham Street. The entire Shepparton Swans football clubrooms and ground went under water and became a massive lake. I was amazed that the Bureau of Meteorolgy were able to pretty much predict the exact time the water would peak and how high it would get to within 10cms. But as always in these situations, the community came together to help each other. Sandbagging 24 hours took place at the showgrounds. Food parcels were dropped off by water craft to those isolated. The Shepparton community can be very proud of its response to those in need.
I spend a lot of time in the bush between Shepparton and Mooroopna and I reckon I know the area pretty well but the floods changed all that. Trees, logs etc moved by the strength of the floodwaters. The majority of the 53 caches I have in the bush were impacted. They either floated away or the logs they were hidden in floated away or when I located them at gz, they were full of water. At the time of writing this all but one have been reactivated.
This cache hide will give you some indication of the power of the floodwaters. I won't give too much away, it will be obvious when you reach gz. This is a beautiful area so enjoy a peaceful stroll while you are out here.
Cache is a micro camo container containing log only so pls bring a writing implement.
