Clearing and burning scrub on Alney Island

*** PLEASE NOTE UPDATED COORDINATES: N51 52.365 W2 15.889  - ALNEY ISLAND ***

*** THIS IS A CHANGE OF WORK SITE FROM THE ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED CITO ON ROBINSWOOD HILL ***

due to health and safety concerns in view of weather-related ground conditions

Parking: Is onsite at N51 52.326 W2 15.860. Access to the site is off the A417 westbound out of Gloucester towards the Over roundabout. There is a pull-in off the dual carriageway (N51 52.319 W2 15.750) where the metal security barrier will be opened for 09:30, and you will be able to drive down to the parking area.

If you arrive after the start time and find the security barrier has been closed, please send me a message via Geocaching message centre and I will come and reopen the barrier. You can wait in your vehicle in the pull-in area.

Where: If you are arriving by car: meet by the metal security barrier at 09:30, we will direct you down to the parking area.
If you are arriving by other means: meet us near the headline coordinates.

What: The project on this part of Alney Island is to clear scrub, mainly overgrown alder and brambles, in order to open up the view into the marshland osier beds. We shall be burning the cleared scrub.

How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance. We ask you to bring your own work gloves and if you have them tools, so if you have loppers and a saw please do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have them as the Ranger will have a supply too.

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by Council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.

Please make sure you bring along your own refreshments as it can be thirsty work. Cake will be provided at breaktime!
