Another in my occasional series of morning get-togethers, which aim to be within a few miles of the River Erewash, the border between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. All geocachers are welcome, for an hour of chat, the sharing of ideas or puzzle-hints, the exchange of trackables, and anything to do with our hobby.
This is as far north we can go using the Erewash idea, for the source of the river is within a few hundred yards of event location. The venue is a cafe called "The Fat Rabbit", which is part of the Portland Park Visitor Centre. Drinks, a breakfast menu, and other snacks, are available for those who fancy it, but you are under no obligation. The venue is child and dog friendly. If you don't know the area, this is just 3 miles from Junction 27 of the M1.
There is some parking next to the visitor centre, but only enough for a handful of cars. At the entrance to the park - a couple of minutes walk away - there is a large car park, and you are recommended to use this. There is disabled parking at the cafe.
Portland Park and nature reserve offers loads of walking opportunities - last time we came here was in June 2018, so it will be interesting to see what it is like as a winter venue.
The cafe have advised that they are rather short of staff, so service won't be instant.
