This is the tenth cache in a series based on our family’s love of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series, and is a tribute to Ares, the motorcycle-riding, sunglasses-wearing God of War, father to Clarisse and godly rival of the demigod Percy.
While it is certainly true that history has shown a certain segment of society tents to show favor to the “bad-boy”, it was a surprise to many on Mount Olympus when Ares managed to capture the heart of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. Especially surprised by this action was Aphrodite’s husband Hephestus.
So it came to be, that when it was time for Ares to bless his Fairfax geocache, he said something along the lines of “Keep it simple, throw it in an ammo can in the forest and let the people come pay tribute.”
Unfortunately, Hephestus overheard and got to the cache before it was approved by the good volunteers at Geocaching.com. As we understand it, the God of The Forge put a puzzle and a lock on the outside of the cache host, murmuring something about Ares’ magnetic personality being the key to his wooing success.
We tried to reason with Hephestus, as not all geocachers are demigods, so he left a tool on the box as well, but someone appears to have taken it. Make sure you have something small and metal with you.
Bonus Cache Info: Inside the Ares Cache, you will find a letter to his lover Aphrodite, which it is said, may have coordinates to her cache.
