Known worldwide for its picturesque view over the Painted Ladies in the foreground and downtown in the distance. If a movie is being filmed in San Francisco it's likely that there will be a scene in Alamo Square.
Named after the lone cottonwood tree ("alamo" in Spanish) Alamo Hill, was once a watering hole on the horseback trail from Mission Dolores to the Presidio in the 1800s. Later in 1856, then Mayor James Van Ness created a 12.7 acres (5.1 ha) park surrounding the watering hole, creating "Alamo Square" as it's known today.
After you log your visit take a sec to enjoy the view, because while it is a typical tourist spot, it doesn't make it any less beautiful, even for a local.
