Geocache Description:

Just off I91 in Springfield. King Philips Stockade. Northwest

The cache is located at a place called King Philip's Stockade. King Philip or Metacomet was the son of Massasoit the indian who helped out the Pilgrims. About 1676 Metacomet went on the warpath. Near this cache, that year, the Keep family was killed by hostile indians while on their way to church. Springfield and other Pioneer Valley settlements suffered attacks during "King Philip's War". As you look west try to remember the days when this valley was the frontier.
