A little bit on the seaway expansion and the Then & Now Signs:
The St. Lawrence River was expanded on July 1, 1958 (now remembered as Inundation Day in the area) by a controlled explosion at a cofferdam. Four days later an area once home to 7,500 people disappeared under the waves of the St. Lawrence, part of the newly created St. Lawrence Seaway. Over 80 homes were moved in preperation for this expansion, and Morrisburg's original main street now resides under water. On July 1 2019, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the St Lawrence Seaway Inundation Day the Morrisburg Waterfront Committee (MWFC) installed the “Morrisburg Then & Now” signs.
