I wanted to place this cache with my 8 year old grandson. (Dragonfyre) He is into geocaching with me, Although he doesn't have an account I want him to be part of the hide. I tell him that he is my good luck charm on caches that I have had trouble finding.
This rest area is the first sustainable rest area in the state of NC. I like to see where people are from, and how far you have traveled. if you are passing through the great County of Wilkes, post in your log, if you don't mind.
This cache is about 250' from the closest parking spot near the trailhead that leads to GZ. It is an easy hike to GZ, there may be some posion ivy, but I didn't spot any as we hid the cache. There were a few briars which you can avoid, and lots of spider webs, so be careful. You will be about 40' or so from the cow pasture fence. You do not need to get close to this fence. Please be respectful, and CITO if you can!
The host is a small camouflage bottle that blends in very well. It is about 2' from ground level. You shouldn't need a TOTT. I tried to make it a quick find for the traverlers, I know how it is, traveling and wanting to find a cache, but not spending a lot of time searching. You can stretch your legs and the trail starts out paved and is very well maintained, with a little very light bushwhacking at the end. There is another cache about 2/10 of a mile away on the other side of the rest area, Just off the Nature trail also.
There is a FTF wooden nickel for the First to Find! There is very limited room for swag, and please bring your own writing instrument.
