Ft. Hancock Mercantile was established when the town of Fort Hancock was founded in 1883, this general store is the oldest in Hudspeth County, started by a Mr. Ross, later the first area postmaster. It was sold in 1916 to Q.A. Hare and his wife, in 1960 they transferred the business to their daughter Mrs. Bob Sims and her husband. It has remained in continuous operation, serving the mexican border area with modern supplies as well as items like horse collars and coffee mills. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1967. Extracted from source.
This store remained open until at least 2012, when posts were still being updated in their Facebook page. At the time of placement, this store was closed. Still, it remains a witness of time and how it has changed this region.

I cannot stress this enough: the cache is placed outside the establiment, do NOT enter. Room for log only (BYOP), might need TOTT. Due to small size, please initial and date only. Leave were found and use stealth, this is a high-traffic area at times. Always double check for muggles when retrieving or placing back! 💝 Logs that are not signed will be erased.
As always, let Geocaching take you to unexpected places!
Have fun and KEEP EXPLORING! 🗺️🌹🏜️
