The Dakota Apartments were constructed between 1880 and 1884 and designed by Henry Janeway Hardenbergh. This co-op building, located on 72nd st and Central Park West is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
This Renaissance Revival, English Victorian style building has had some notable residents including Connie Chung, Roberta Flack, Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney, Lauren Bacall and U2's Bono. There were some rejected applicants that I feel should be noted such as Madonna, Melanie Griffith, Cher, Antonio Banderas, Carly Simon and Long Island's famous, Billy Joel.
In Roman Polanski's 1968 film Rosemary's baby, the Dakota was used for exterior shots of the NYC apartment building where the story takes place.
To claim this virtual, send me a picture of yourself or a geo-item in front of the building as proof that you did not armchair log. It is not necessary to wait for my response to write your log.
There is parking nearby if you want to explore Central Park West (which is optional), but expect to pay heavily.
