Il Ponte dei Sospiri è uno dei più rappresentativi simboli di Venezia. Si trova a pochi passi da Piazza San Marco e collega il Palazzo Ducale con le antiche prigioni.
La maggior parte delle persone si scatta una fotografia o un selfie con il Ponte dei Sospiri in sfondo perché viene considerato uno dei luoghi più romantici a Venezia. Per questa ragione viene anche chiamato il Ponte dell’Amore o il Ponte degli Innamorati: tantissime gondole attraversano questa struttura offrendo un punto di vista unico sulla laguna.

The Bridge of Sighs is one of the most representative symbols of Venice. It is located a few steps from Piazza San Marco and connects the Doge's Palace with the ancient prisons.
Most people take a photograph or selfie with the Bridge of Sighs in the background because it is considered one of the most romantic places in Venice. For this reason it is also called the Bridge of Love or the Bridge of Lovers: many gondolas cross this structure offering a unique point of view on the lagoon.
La storia del Ponte dei Sospiri

Nel 1577 un terribile incendio danneggiò il Palazzo Ducale, per cui fu necessario un nuovo sistema i prigioni, che restò poi operativo fino al 1919. Nei primi anni del XVII secolo, il Doge Marino Grimani ordinò di costruire un nuovo ponte per connettere la prigione con le sale di giustizia e della magistratura. Il nuovo progetto venne assegnato all’architetto Antonio Contin, che preferì usare la pietra bianca d’Istria con uno straordinario stile Barocco.

The history of the Bridge of Sighs In 1577 a terrible fire damaged the Doge's Palace, which required a new system of prisons, which then remained operational until 1919. Il ponte è completamente al chiuso, composto da due corridoi separati ma molto stretti: la struttura venne progettata per evitare ogni possibile fuga. L’unico a riuscire a scappare dalle prigioni di Venezia, fu Giacomo Casanova, arrestato nel 1577 per immoralità e idee anti-religiose. Scappò il 31 ottobre 1756 e la sua storia divenne presto un libro.

The bridge is completely closed, consisting of two separate but very narrow corridors: the structure was designed to avoid any possible escape. The only one who managed to escape from the prisons of Venice was Giacomo Casanova, arrested in 1577 for immorality and anti-religious ideas. Sull’angolo del Palazzo Ducale si può osservare dal Ponte della Paglia, una bellissima scultura raffigurante Noè ubriaco che si aggrappa ad un albero di vite. Noè, ormai anziano, è in compagnia dei suoi 3 figli: i primi due cercano di coprire le nudità del corpo de padre, mentre il terso mostra tutta la sua indignazione.
La scultura fu realizzata da Filippo Calendario, che si è concentrato sull’aspetto morale della storia biblica: non è tanto importante la figura indecorosa di Noè e il suo comportamento poco degno, quanto la reazione dei figlI. Probabilmente la scultura è stata collocata proprio in quella posizione per ricordare a tutti l’importanza della pietà e del perdono contro il facile giudizio.

On the corner of the Doge's Palace you can see from the Ponte della Paglia, a beautiful sculpture depicting drunk Noah clinging to a vine tree. Noah, now elderly, is in the company of his 3 children: the first two try to cover the nakedness of the father's body, while the third shows all his indignation.
The sculpture was created by Filippo Calendar, who focused on the moral aspect of the biblical story: the indecent figure of Noah and his unworthy behavior are not so important as the reaction of the children.Probably the sculpture was placed in that position to remind everyone of the importance of piety and forgiveness against easy judgment.

Il punto di osservazione più famoso è quello fotografato da migliaia di persone ogni giorno dal Ponte della Paglia, che collega Piazza San Marco con Riva degli Schiavoni.
Questo punto è sempre gremito di turisti, perché è il modo più veloce e soprattutto economico per scattare una foto ricordo del Ponte dei Sospiri. Si può anche scegliere il retro, cioè attraversando il ponte che si trova presso Fondamenta della Canonica.
Si può percorrere il ponte dall’interno solo grazie al Tour del Palazzo Ducale. In questo modo puoi ammirare la stessa suggestiva vista dalle grate che avevano una volta i prigionieri in attesa di una sentenza. Da qui si può ammirare la Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore e l’Isola della Giudecca.
